A Very Interesting Ballo
Dear fellow opera lovers,
One of our esteemed webmasters, Geoffrey, is running a bit behind today, so he authorized me to post a heads-up regarding a particularly interesting OperaCast today offered by Radio Oesterreich International and BBC Radio 3 at GMT 1730/EDT 1:30PM. It is a recent performance of Verdi's Ballo in Maschera at Covent Garden and features two of the most exciting young singers in the world of opera today, Marcelo Alvarez and Karita Mattila. I know I will certainly be listening, and I hope many of you will enjoy this performance as well. Of the two audio streams I'd give a slight edge in quality to that offered by Radio Oesterreich International.

ROI vs. BBC: That's what I thought, too, but the ROI signal kept dropping out and wouldn't restart itself in Windows Media Player. BBC Radio 3 sounded quite good in Real Player, much better than I've heard lately.
As for the singing, I thought Mattila and Alvarez were truly wonderful in the scene at the gallows.
