The following table lists the regularly scheduled opera broadcasts currently available on the Net in decent sound. The station names are linked to the highest speed and quality audio streams available for that station. The program names are linked to the station's scheduling page for that program.
With respect to the audio stream links, in some cases these connect to stream speeds as high as 176.4K, unavailable to any except broadband-type connections like DSL and cable modem. If you do have a non-broadband-type connection, such as a 56K connection, please go to our STATIONS LIST for a complete list of the high fidelity streams available for that station. In all but 28 of our 136 listed stations, a high fidelity stream is available for the non-broadband-connected among us.
A word about timings: All timings are listed in both Greenwich Mean Time and Eastern Standard Time. Both Europe and North America is now on Standard Time. For those of you who live in other time zones, you will need to make a calculation to derive the time of an event where you live. In the United States, subtract five (5) hours (from GMT) for the Eastern Time Zone, six (6) hours for the Central Time Zone, and seven (7) hours for the Mountain Time Zone. Subtract eight (8) hours for the Pacific Time Zone and nine (9) hours for Alaska, and ten (10) hours for Hawaii. In most of Europe add one (1) hour (some Eastern European countries are now two (2) hours ahead of GMT). In the Southern Hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand are now on Daylight Time (Australia is 11 hours ahead of GMT; New Zealand is 13 hours ahead of GMT).
Those in America need to remember that if a broadcast is listed for a given day in the small hours, like GMT 0100 Monday or GMT 0200 Thursday, that translates into the previous evening in America. In the examples just given, the Monday broadcast will be airing at 8:00PM SUNDAY, not Monday, and the Thursday broadcast will be airing at 9:00PM WEDNESDAY, not Thursday.
For more information on time zone calculations, double click the time display on the lower right of your screen (if you are using a PC) to display the Time Zone tab, then click on the drop-down menu for a full list of time zones and their relationships to Greenwich Mean Time. For quick time zone conversions we have added links on the time grid below to the TIME CONVERTER.
Finally you should be aware that a few of the links listed below require the Adobe Reader to work properly. If you intend to follow up on the links listed below, we recommend that you open up Adober Reader now in preparation, or that you download and install the Adobe Reader before following up on the links listed on this page.
| Special Note: Due to a major rights battle with radio commercial performers, some commercial stations in the United States have abandoned their streaming feeds on the internet, at least temporarily. Internet users should be aware that a given station may go off the air (on the internet) at any time. While we are attempting to keep up with developments on this issue, it may take time for us to become aware of the disappearance or reappearance of a station. |
